“The mission of the Jefferson County Regional Crime Laboratory is to provide meaningful, timely, unbiased and accurate forensic services to the community.”

The Jefferson County Regional Crime Laboratory is located in the administration building of the Jefferson County Correctional Facility and is accredited by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB) International program and the Texas Forensic Science Commission. As a regional crime lab, the lab analyzes evidence for law enforcement agencies in Jefferson, Orange, and Newton counties. The laboratory has a full time staff of eleven and is accredited in Forensic Science Testing and Calibration in the disciplines of Drug Chemistry (Controlled Substances), Biology (Body Fluid Identification), Toxicology (Blood Alcohol Only and Breath Alcohol Measuring Instruments), and Firearms/Toolmarks (Firearms and Serial Number Restoration). In addition to these disciplines, Forensic Scientists assist law enforcement agencies at crime scenes, provide training, testify in court, provide technical supervision for Jefferson County’s breath alcohol testing program, and act as technical assessors for the ASCLD/LAB-International accreditation program.

Forensic Scientists employed by the lab are involved with a number of professional organizations, including:
